The air filter’s job is to keep dirt out of your engine and fuel system. Over time, dirt builds up and restricts the flow of air through the filter and that affects fuel economy and performance. Once this happens, it needs to be replaced with a new one. Air filters generally should be replaced about once a year, but a visual inspection is the best indicator of true wear.
Pollen and dust can enter the interior of your car through the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. Cabin air filters are used to filter, and clean the air in the car before you breathe it.
When this filter becomes clogged with contaminants, it reduces the amount of air entering your vehicle. Over time, this can lead to musty odours, as well as decreased HVAC performance. When this happens you will have a defroster that takes longer to clear the windows.
About 50% of all cars on the road have a cabin air filter. Replace these filters according to your manufacturer's required replacement interval, usually once a year or every 25,000 kms. If you're not sure if your vehicle has a cabin air filter, ask a PRO OIL CHANGE service technician to check for you.
PRO OIL CHANGE technicians:
- remove and inspect the old cabin air filter
- install a new cabin air filter

The PCV Valve is one of the critical emission control devices. It reduces fumes, and extends the life of your oil and your engine. The Breather filters circulating air, and reduces air pollution. Most manufacturers recommend the PCV Valve be replaced every year. Breathers should be replaced when saturated with oil or visibly dirty.
PRO OIL CHANGE technicians inspect the PCV Filter and PCV Valve as part of our

Serpentine belts (also called Poly-Rib belts) reduce the number of belts required to drive your car accessories. Accessories include the alternator, water pump, power steering pump, and air conditioning compressor. These serpentine rubber belts eventually break down due to heat, cold, and friction, and need to be replaced when worn. The recommended replacement interval is usually 3-4 years, but belts should be inspected for wear and replaced when necessary.
PRO OIL CHANGE technicians:
- visually inspect the serpentine belt
- remove the old belt
- replace with a new, warranty approved belt
- inspect the new belt while the car is in operation

Washer fluid is essential to proper visibility, but many drivers don't think to check their windshield washer fluid level, and soon they are out of fluid in unfortunate conditions.

Vehicle Batteries are frequently overlooked during routine vehicle inspections. People tend to wait until they have a problem, such as the vehicle not starting before they even think about their battery. For this reason Pro Oil Change tests batteries as part of our detailed regular inspection. We use test equipment that can identify issues before they have the chance to cause problems. Our Charging and Starting System test will check for depleted battery cells, poor connections, starter motor draw and alternator output. Passing these tests ensures the vehicle will start when it needs to, and prevent the hours of waiting time and high costs of roadside assistance. |
